The University of Mindanao College of Engineering Education, Philippines, visited the Unilamp manufacturing facility in Thailand for an educational factory tour. The visit aimed to give students a broad and practical understanding of how outdoor lighting products are designed, manufactured, and tested within an international production environment. It provided valuable exposure to real industrial processes and demonstrated how theoretical engineering concepts are applied in daily manufacturing operations.
The factory tour was organized as part of the University of Mindanao College of Engineering Education’s ongoing commitment to enhancing engineering learning through real-world experiences. While classroom instruction lays crucial foundations, visits like this help students understand how engineering principles are implemented in practice. By exploring the facility, students observed how a modern outdoor lighting manufacturer manages operations such as planning, machining, coating, assembly, quality assurance, and product testing.
The visit was designed not to deliver highly technical training, but to offer students a clear and broad perspective on how an international lighting company operates, how workflows are structured, and how different teams collaborate to ensure reliable and consistent product quality.

Throughout the tour, students learned about Unilamp’s full manufacturing flow—from raw materials to completed luminaires ready for global deployment. They were introduced to several Unilamp-developed systems, such as UniShield16, UniBlock, UniLock, and UniBreath. These systems were explained in accessible terms to help students understand how engineering solutions contribute to durability, safety, and long-term performance.
A major highlight of the visit was a session inside UniLab, Unilamp’s dedicated testing center. Here, students observed how products undergo photometric testing, water ingress evaluation, thermal assessments, and other performance checks aligned with international standards. This helped them appreciate the essential role of testing in engineering and how it ensures the reliability of lighting products used in various environments.
Students also toured key production departments including machining, coating, assembly, and packaging. They saw how each stage contributes to the overall workflow and how well-coordinated processes support efficiency and quality. The tour emphasized the importance of communication, accurate planning, and professional discipline within a functioning industrial environment.

The visit allowed students from the University of Mindanao College of Engineering Education to connect their academic knowledge with real engineering activities. They asked questions, interacted with Unilamp personnel, and observed how professionals handle production challenges, manage workflows, and maintain quality standards.
The experience highlighted essential engineering concepts such as continuous improvement, system integration, and reliability-focused design. Students also gained an understanding of how products engineered in Thailand support installations across Southeast Asia and the Middle East, illustrating the global relevance of engineering decisions in real-world applications.
Unilamp is honored to welcome students and faculty from the University of Mindanao College of Engineering Education and remains committed to supporting engineering education within the region. The company believes that collaboration between academic institutions and industry partners plays an important role in shaping future engineers. By granting access to real manufacturing environments, Unilamp aims to encourage technical curiosity and inspire future professionals.
The tour concluded with an open discussion session where students exchanged insights, asked questions about career development, and expressed interest in industry expectations. A group photo marked the end of the visit, symbolizing a meaningful exchange of learning and goodwill.
Both the University of Mindanao College of Engineering Education and Unilamp look forward to exploring future opportunities for collaboration in support of engineering advancement and academic development.
