Moisture is one of the most persistent challenges in outdoor lighting. From tropical humidity and monsoon rain to coastal salt air and overnight condensation, water in any form can shorten the lifespan of a luminaire and degrade its performance over time. UniBlock is Unilamp's proprietary anti-humidity technology designed to keep outdoor luminaires dry, stable, and reliable throughout their full service life.

Understanding the Humidity Problem in Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor luminaires operate in environments where temperature and humidity fluctuate constantly. As fixtures heat up during operation and cool down overnight, air inside the housing expands and contracts. Without proper protection, this cycle draws in moist outside air, which condenses into water droplets on internal components. Over time, this leads to corrosion, electrical faults, lens fogging, and reduced light output failures that are preventable with the right anti-humidity system in place.

Anti-humidity technology interrupts this cycle by preventing moisture from entering the fixture, by allowing pressure to equalize safely, or by sealing the specific pathways through which moisture most commonly migrates.

What Is UniBlock?

UniBlock is Unilamp's proprietary anti-humidity kit, purpose-built for outdoor and submerged lighting applications. Designed to withstand harsh environments, UniBlock is available in three types, each engineered for specific moisture protection requirements. Every UniBlock equipped luminaire is assembled in Unilamp's humidity-controlled production room, ensuring no moisture is sealed inside the luminaire during manufacturing and that protection is effective from the very first moment of the product's operational life.

The Three Types of UniBlock

• UniBlock Type 1 — Cable Entry Potting

UniBlock Type 1 seals the cable entry point using resin applied directly into the prepared entry channel. The dedicated cavity engineered into the luminaire to receive the potting compound. This creates a secure, moisture-blocking barrier at the point where the cable enters the luminaire housing.

  • Widely used in standard outdoor and façade luminaires
• UniBlock Type 2 — Cable Gland Potting

UniBlock Type 2 takes protection further resin is introduced directly into the cable gland itself, potting both the cable gland and the luminaire housing simultaneously. This creates a sealed system at the cable entry point with dual-layer protection.

• • Double lock wiring — secured by both resin potting and the mechanical cable gland locking system
  • Significantly high protection against moisture ingress at the most critical entry point
  • Easy to maintain
  • Designed for high-humidity environments, submerged applications, and demanding outdoor installations including underwater luminaires
• UniBlock Type 3 — Cable Core Potting

UniBlock Type 3 addresses moisture migration through the internal wiring pathways of the luminaire sealing the cable core itself to prevent water vapor and humidity from traveling through the wiring into the luminaire housing from the inside.

Key advantages:

• • Protects against moisture ingress through internal cable pathways. A vulnerability that housing IP ratings alone cannot address
  • Compatible with 2-core, 3-core, and 5-core wiring
  • Effective for standard outdoor environments and installations where internal wiring protection is the primary requirement
  • Widely used in façade projectors and surface-mounted luminaires

We Design the Right UniBlock for Every Unilamp Luminaire

Specified for Every Unilamp Luminaire

Unilamp selects the appropriate UniBlock specification for each luminaire during the manufacturing and specification process ensuring the right level of moisture protection is matched to the demands of each product and its intended application. Every Unilamp luminaire falls into one of four UniBlock categories:

• UniBlock Type 1, 2, or 3
  Included as Standard The appropriate UniBlock type is integrated into the luminaire during manufacturing and assembly in Unilamp's humidity-controlled production room. Protection is built in from day one. No additional purchase or installation required.
• UniBlock Optional Add-On
  Selected Unilamp luminaires do not include UniBlock as standard but support it as an optional accessory. For projects where installation conditions, environmental exposure, or long-term reliability requirements call for enhanced moisture protection, UniBlock Cable core potting can be purchased and specified as an addition to these luminaires.
• UniBlock — Not Included
  Certain Unilamp luminaires do not include UniBlock and are not compatible with UniBlock as an add-on. These luminaires are engineered with sufficient built-in housing protection for their intended application and environment. UniBlock is not available for separate purchase for these products.
